The Year Abroad (Auslandsjahr) program by CanStart Group is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for high school students aged 15–18 from Germany to live, learn, and thrive in Canada. Through this carefully designed academic and cultural exchange, students can earn Canadian high school credits, significantly improve their English, and fully immerse themselves in the dynamic life of Toronto—one of the safest, most multicultural, and student-friendly cities in the world.

Beyond the classroom, students will explore Canada’s rich culture and breathtaking natural beauty through a series of supervised tours to iconic destinations like Niagara Falls, Montreal, Quebec City, Kingston, Ottawa, and 1000 Islands. This isn’t just a study program—it’s an adventure of a lifetime that builds confidence, global perspective, and lifelong memories.

The program is open to international high school students aged 15 to 18, primarily from Germany, who are interested in studying abroad and exploring life in Canada.

Students can either:

• Enroll at provide high schools such as Braemar College or Fieldstone School, or any of public high schools (TSDB) in Toronto, and earn Canadian high school credits, or

• Improve their English at the Greater Toronto Language School (GTLS) with IELTS preparation available.

A study permit is required for programs over 6 months (24 weeks), which is the option for a full academic year. CanStart Group provides full assistance with the study permit application and covers the cost if you enroll for the full academic year (Braemar College or Fieldstone School).

For all programs that are shorter then 24 weeks, you will need to get eTA.

Coverage typically includes doctor visits, emergency services, hospital care, and prescriptions. Full details about your school’s specific insurance plan will be provided after you complete your registration.

Yes! CanStart Group proudly offers a range of small scholarships and discounts to make the Year Abroad (Auslandsjahr) experience in Canada more accessible for families.

Scholarships are available on the first come first serve basis. The size of a scholarship varies from €150 and €1,500 and fully depend on the program.

Sibling Discount:

Families enrolling more than one child receive a sibling discount for all children enrolled from one family. The amount of discount is available for private schools only and depends on the school.

Friend Referral Discount:

Bring a friend or two and you ALL will receive 5% discount on the tuition fee.
